If something went wrong in the app, it helps to include:

• the app details from Settings › About — tap Copy details and paste them into your email;
• what you were doing, roughly where, and what you expected to happen;
• a screenshot, if you have one.

Beta testers on iPhone can also take a screenshot and send it from TestFlight.

Getting started

1. Sign in. TerraADV is in a closed beta, so accounts are by invitation. Use the email address your invitation was sent to.
2. Download your region. Open Settings › Map & Offline and download the states or islands you travel in. Do this on Wi-Fi before you leave; regions are large.
3. Plan a route. Search for a place and tap Go, or open the route builder and drop a start and an end. Pick Road, ADV or Hard ADV depending on how much dirt you want.
4. Navigate. Tap Navigate. Directions, the map and rerouting all work with no mobile reception once the region is downloaded.

Common questions

Does it work without reception?

Yes. Maps, terrain, search and routing run on your phone from the regions you download. You need a connection to download a region, sign in, and sync your routes and rides.

Which areas are covered?

Every Australian state and territory, and New Zealand's North and South Islands. Download only the ones you need.

Why does the app ask for location "Always"?

So directions and ride recording keep going with the screen off or the phone locked in its mount. TerraADV only uses your location while you are navigating or recording a ride. You can choose "While Using" instead; iPhone then shows a blue indicator while the app is guiding you in the background.

What are Road, ADV and Hard ADV?

Road keeps to sealed roads. ADV prefers gravel and dirt roads where they make sense. Hard ADV goes further onto tracks. Before you set off, the route profile shows the surface mix, climbing and difficulty.

A route goes somewhere I can't get through

Maps are only as good as the data behind them. Report a closed road, locked gate or impassable section from the map so other users are warned, and so the route builder can avoid it. Always obey signs, closures and private property on the ground, whatever the app says.

CarPlay

Plug in or connect wirelessly and TerraADV appears on the car's screen with turn-by-turn directions, search, your saved routes and the route profile.

Siri and Shortcuts

Ask Siri to plan a ride with Terra Adventure — for example to a town — and choose Road, Adventure or Hard Adventure. The app opens with the route planned; tap Navigate when you are ready.

Can I use GPX files?

Yes. Import a GPX file from the Routes tab, and export your routes and recorded rides as GPX.

My routes haven't appeared on another device

Routes and rides sync when you are signed in to the same account and have a connection. Open the app on both devices with reception and give it a moment.

Your account and privacy

• Change your name or nickname in Settings › Account.
• Delete your account from the app, or see how account deletion works.
• Read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Safety

TerraADV is a planning and navigation aid. Conditions change, and tracks can be closed, washed out or on private land. Check conditions before you go, carry what you need to get yourself out, and keep your eyes on the track, not the screen.
